As part of integration training in Finland, migrants are provided withFinnish or Swedish language courses. The linguistic objective is to provide migrantswith the basic language skills required in daily life. To find the most suitableteaching group for learners in integration training, a placement assessmentis carried out. This includes assessment of learners’ current proficiency level inthe target language and study skills/experience. In this article we describe a projectto develop a national test system for placement assessment (see Ohranen etal. 2015).
